San Marino and Rimini last men standing, heading to Italian Baseball Championship Series

ROME – Nettuno was on top of the world going into the final three games of the Italian Baseball League round-robin playoffs

ROME – Nettuno was on top of the world going into the final three games of the Italian Baseball League round-robin playoffs.  But it all came crashing down as Rimini managed to beat Nettuno in two-out-of-three contests, which brought the Pirates record even with that of Nettuno’s.  Both teams finished the round-robin with 5 wins and 4 losses, but Rimini’s head-to-head record of 2-1 versus Nettuno allowed them to move on, despite losing their last game in the playoffs.

San Marino moved on to the Italian Baseball Championship Series without much controversy, sweeping Bologna of their feet to finish the Robin with a 1st-place record of 6-3.

Bologna didn’t play much the role of spoiler, having dropped their last 5 games.

Next, regular season champions San Marino will battle it out with cross-town rivals Rimini, in a battle on the Adriatic.

Rimini finished the regular season in fourth place, but the Pirates will be looking to turn up the heat to smoke out their rivals, but San Marino is poised and will be ready to strike.
