By defeating Estonia the day prior and beating Modova and the Czech Republic on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, Team Italy and undefeated Lithuania are assured of advancing to the Baseball 5 Euro Championship Super Round. Team Italy Baseball5 manager Maurizio Balla said, “We were extraordinary on defense. Against the Czech Republic, we produced a defensive masterpiece. In the second set, we immediately went ahead and never looked back. However, We also lost shortstop Cristian Agresta, who suffered an injury to his knee. Yet Leonardo Turo took over a role that wasn't his usual position and made four of the six final outs that allowed us to win."
Earlier in the day, Team Italy played with intensity against Moldova and won in two sets (5-2, 4-3) but was rolled over by host Lithuania (11-1, 11-2). In the afternoon, the Italians won two very tight sets against the Czech Republic (3-1, 1-0) to mathematically qualify for one of three Group B spots for the Baseball5 European Championship Super Round. Team Italy concludes Group B Qualification Round play with a best-of-three game series against Belgium on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at 3:15 pm (local time).
The Team Italy lineup: Cristian Agresta shortstop, Riccardo Sana mid, Chiara Pecorelli second base, Filippo Sabatini third base, Beatrice Deregibus first base. Giulia Moretto, Leonardo Turo and Irene Bellusci served as reliable replacements throughout the contests.
