Team Italy suffers first loss in U18 Women's European Softball Championship

Czech Republic defeated Team Italy 9-4 on day four of the U18 Women's European Softball Championship in Prague, Czech Republic

Team Italy manager Andrea Longagnani and his U18 softball squad are the defending Euro champions. Czech Republic is the host of the U18 Women's European Softball Championship in Prague. The two squads went head-to-head on Thursday, July 22, 2021, and the home team won 9-4. Team Italy had a short-lived 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning after Marianna Zumerle homered, but Czech Republic answered in the bottom half of the inning with six runs. The Czechs added to their commanding lead when they scored one run in the third inning and another two in the fourth inning.

Team Italy frantically tried to play catch-up softball when scoring three runs in the top of the fifth inning, but it was both too little and too late for a comeback. Clara Carati, Agnese Giacometti, Linda Rampoldi, Angelica Agrò and Alessia Borracelli collected base hits in the 9-4 defeat to Czech Republic.

It is still possible for Team Italy to make amends against Czech Republic in the U18 Women's European Softball Championship final on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 5 pm. However, it will take victories the day prior against Kingdom of the Netherlands at 12:30 pm and Spain at 5:30 pm in order for the rematch to happen. Forza #Italia! #PerEnrico
