Team Italy wins U15 European Softball Championship debut over France

Team Italy shut out France 1-0 to kick off the U15 European Softball Championship in Enschede, the Netherlands on Monday, July 18, 2022

Team Italy manager Maristella Perizzolo made the right call when starting pitcher Emma Silva in the circle against France on day one of the U15 European Softball Championship in Enschede, the Netherlands on Monday, July 18, 2022. The Italian pitcher threw six scoreless innings and gave up just two hits with nine strikeouts and no walks to win the 1-0 shutout.

France starter Emma Flayol gave her best effort but hit opposing pitcher Emma Silva at bat in the bottom of the fourth inning. Speedster Anita Girardi replaced her at first base, immediately stole second base and reached third base when the catcher's throw to second went into center field. She later scored on a fielder's choice by Sveva Moggi to give Team Italy the slim 1-0 advantage and eventually win the contest.
