Joey Williamson picked up by Unipol Bologna

UnipolSai Bologna added the American pitcher, Joey Williamson, this week. This 28-year-old right-handed pitcher out of Florida has a fastball that travels in the 90’s, with plenty experience as a starter in the minors and in independent ball. “We went after a starter because when the rosters expand in June it would have been difficult to land a quality arm like Williamson who has the characteristics of taking our club deep into a game,” stated GM Christian Mura.

Joseph David Williamson signed his first pro contract out of Notre Dame back in 2007 with the Colorado Rockies organization where he made it as high as AAA in 2012. In 2013 he found himself in the Atlantic League (Independent Baseball) with the Camden Riversharks, pitching in 11 games as a starter and posting a 3.98 ERA. This winter Williamson was in the Dominican Republic where he played for the Gigantes del Cibao.

Williamson will be expected to pair up with Rivero on the bump in the foreign game.
