ROME – Followers of the Italian Softball League have known for some weeks now that Caserta would be the 2012 regular-season champion and the top-seed of the playoffs, thus earning the easiest route to the ISL championship series, as the softballers from Caserta will be pitted against the 4th seed, whichever team that may be.

Only one game will be separating Bollate, La Loggia going into the final week of play.  If play were to finish today, Bollate and La Loggia would face each other, while Bologna would have to take on heavy-hitting Caserta.

Bologna (19-13) is sending Nuoro back to Sardinia with two more losses to add to their suitcases. Bologna is the first team to have completed all 32 games of the regular-season.

Bollate (18-12) swatted the Titano Hornets to capture two games, 3-0 and 5-3, on the road in San Marino.

La Loggia (18-12) shared Saturday’s winnings with Forli.  Forli dropped the opener, 3-1, in a game they could not afford to lose.  The split has ended Forli’s playoff hopes and guaranteed Bologna the final playoff ticket.  With only pride on the line, Forli battled back in the nightcap to win 6-4.

In another series with no playoff bearing, Legnano and last-place Fermana split their doubleheader, with Legnano blanking Fermana 1-0, before Fermana took the game under the lights, 6-3.

Caserta had a bye-week.
