Italian Softball League newcomer Bologna continues to impress, sweeps way to 2nd place

ROME – The surprise, so far, of this year’s Italian Softball League has to be the Blue Girls Bologna squad.  In their first year in the league, the softballers from Bologna have marked their territory and have posted an impressive 8-4 record—three games off the lead, but still good enough for second place and technically only two games behind Caserta in losses. The Blue Girls were on the only ISL team to execute a perfect weekend, taking out the witch’s broom to sweep Legnano under the rug, 4-1 and 6-4.

Caserta dropped only their second game of the season when the Titano Hornets pulled out a 5-4 extra-inning victory to conclude the doubleheader.  Caserta started off the day by swatting the Hornets 13-0.

La Loggia brought in Nuoro for a pair of games, which were split evenly on the day.  La Loggia cruised to an easy 11-4 win to start off the doubleheader, but Nuoro countered with a 3-0 shutout victory, before having to return to Sardinia.

Bollate dropped to third-place due to their series split with Forli at Forli, although Bollate didn’t lose any ground this week to Caserta. The win for Forli keeps them at the .500 level.

Fermana was idle, but will return to competition for Week 8 action, when they visit Legnano.
