Italian Softball League: Forlì, Collecchio and Bussolengo split Division B in two

DIVISION A

Two wins for the defending Italian Softball League Champs, Rhibo La Loggia, on Saturday over Legnano. 9-2 was the final in game one of the two game series with the win being picked up by Elisa Brandino (6 inning pitched, 7 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts). 13 hits in all for La Loggia’s attack, with two hits apieace being picked up by Dalbesio, Avanzi, Ricchi, and Fama. Suffering the loss for Legnano was Silvia Durot.

In game two Legnano gave it their best with a five run 4th, however Rhibo La Loggia once again came out victorious thanks to the relief work of Elisa Brandino (1.0 ip, 1 hit, 1 bb, 0 runs) who came on to close the door on Legnano’s offense. Earning the ‘W’ was Musitelli with her 5 innings of 2 run ball. Suffering the loss was Valentina Grazzi as she gave up a total of 7 runs in 2 innings of work on the bump. Both Beatrice Ricchi and Amanda Fama picked up two hits apiece in the box.

In Staranzano the series between the Stars and the Caronno Rheavendors seemed to be a fairly evenly matched two game set, as both teams walked away with a win apiece. In game one it was Caronno who came out on top with a 5 to 3 victory over the home team. Debora Moretto was the hero in this one on both sides of the ball, picking up the win with a complete game performance as well as going two for two at the plate with 1 run scored and 2 RBI’s. Suffering the loss for Staranzano was Luisa Russi.

In game 2 it was Staranzano who came out on top thanks to the combined no-hitter by Mikayla Endicott and Veronica Comar. At the plate Marta Gasparotto picked up 2 hits and an RBI for the Stars. The final in this one was 3-0.

On Sunday the only two games on tap was the double dip between Bollate and Nuoro in Bollate. The two game series finished in a tie with Nuoro taking game one by the final of 3 to 1. Bollate was just two outs away from the win when Nuoro’s offense struck for three off of Serena Boniardi, who suffered the loss. Picking up the complete game victory was Paola Cavallo with 7 innings pitched, 7 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts. In game two Bollate bounced back with the 5-0 victory thanks to the workings of Greta Cecchetti’s complete game performance (7 innings pitched, 0 hits, 3 hits, 1 walk and 12 strikeouts). On the offensive side of the ball Melany Sheldon had a nice day with the bat going 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored.

 

DIVISION B

In Division B three clubs entered into the weekend with perfect records, and when the dust settled on Saturday evening those three clubs remained the same. In Collecchio, Labadini Collecchio took down Dino Bigioni Unione Fermana twice. 8 to 1 was the final in the first game, with Greta Longagnani earning the complete game victory. The bats of Ravanetti, DelRio, and Longagnani all picked two hit apiece for the home, with DelRio also driving in a run in the 1st and one in the 5th for Collecchio. Unione Fermana’s defense was a little shaky in this one with, committing 3 errors in all.

In game two, Madison Holub was lights out as she picked up the complete game victory over her counterpart Monica Perry. It was Holub’s second victory in as many weeks for Collecchio, as she gave up only 2 hits in 7 innings all while striking out 14 of Unione Fermana’s batters. The final in this one was 1-0, with the games only run coming in the 3rd on an RBI single off the bat of Melissa Roth.

Bussolengo also picked up the sweep over the newcomer to the ISL, Old Parma Taurus. Two shut out wins, one picked up by Linn Kimberly Bruins with a no-hit, 16 strikeout performance in game two, while in game one it was the combined efforts of Bergamini and Ronchetti, with the win going to Ronchetti (5.2 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, and 8 strikeouts). In game one Priscilla Brandi hand a big game, driving in all three runs for Bussolengo with a two RBI double in the 4th and a solo shot in the 6th. In game two it was Valentina Marazzi’s turn to impress with the bat going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI’s.

                               

Finally in Forlí the Fiorini Forlí Softball Club stayed perfect on the season after they were able to pick up two victories over their counterpart Caserta on Saturday. Game one went by the final of 9 to 8 and it was Ilaria Cacciamani who earned the ‘W’ with three innings of work out of the pen. On the defense side of the ball Caserta committed an alarming 5 errors, 2 coming in Forlí 5 run 5th.

In game two of this two game set the struggles of Caserta once again came to light when they suffered their 4th consecutive loss on this young season. The final in this one was 4 to 3 with Forlí winning the game in walk off fashion thanks to a single in the bottom of the 7th off the bat of Pianella, which plated Gellerman for the victory. Picking up the win for Forlí was Mara Papucci.
