Team Italy U18 baseball squad shuts out York University 10-0

In preparation for the upcoming U18 Baseball World Cup in Florida, Team Italy won its third straight exhibition game in Canada over York University by a score of 10 to 0 on Friday, September 2, 2022.

After defeating the University of Toronto and the University of Waterloo one day prior, the Team Italy U18 baseball squad kept its winning streak in Ontario, Canada alive with a 10-0 shutout over York University on Friday, September 2, 2022. Playing under the lights in front of an enthusiastic crowd, the Azzurri offense was fueled by in Manuel Zazza (2-for-3, 2B), Alessandro Laise (2-for-4, 3B), Tommaso Adorni (1-for-1, 2B) and Alessandro Volpe (1-for-1).

Team Italy pitching was excellent in the contest. Starter Simone Carnevale overcame control issues early and ended both innings of work with strikeouts. Reliever Cristian Laghi looked strong striking out five of the six hitters he faced. Pitcher Pietro Verzin was equally as impressive throwing 20 of 27 pitches for strikes in two hitless innings with four strikeouts. Closer Matteo Marelli got two quick outs on seven pitches before losing sight of the strike zone, but he finished strong with a a game-ending strikeout. Forza #Italia!
