Team Italy reunion: Dominic Fletcher joins Nicky Lopez on the Chicago White Sox

Dominic Fletcher and Nicky Lopez, two of Team Italy’s best performing players in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, are reunited on the Chicago White Sox

After signing Martin Maldonado, Paul DeJong and Kevin Pillar as well as making a trade with the Atlanta Braves to get Max Stassi and Nicky Lopez, the Chicago White Sox made another important trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks to receive outfielder Dominic Fletcher in exchange for highly-touted pitching prospect Christian Mena on Saturday, February 3, 2024.

Dominic Fletcher returns from injury after fracturing his index finger on his left hand to compete with Gavin Sheets and Oscar Colas for the remaining outfield position alongside Luis Robert and Andrew Benintendi on the Chicago White Sox.

Dominic Fletcher is the younger brother of MLB veteran David Fletcher, who is currently in the Atlanta Braves organization. He made his MLB debut on April 30, 2023 at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies and doubled in his first big league career at-bat.

His contribution to the D-backs was invaluable offensively and defensively in a four–game home series against the San Francisco Giants from May 11-14, 2023 when he went 8-for-15 with one double, one triple and two home runs. Fletcher appeared in a total of 28 games during the 2023 season and compiled a respectable .301 batting average with 14 RBI. He was also a driving force behind Team Italy’s fifth-place finish in the 2023 World Baseball Classic going 7-for-19 with two doubles, one homer and four RBI in five games.
