Team Italy women's softball manager Federico Pizzolini is currently putting players in different positions during Florida Spring Training at the in Vero Beach. He will have the difficult task of trimming down his promising Azzurre roster to 15 of most versatile players before departing for the from July 21-27, 2021.
Barring any injuries, Team Italy players will have the ability to showcase what they are capable of defensively in Florida. Catcher Marta Gasparatto was playing shortstop when she injured her knee in the team's first official field practice on April 17, 2021. She is not expected to participate in any further activities until Team Italy departs for the in Fort Myers, where the Tokyo-bound squad will play a pair of doubleheaders against Olympic foe Team Canada on April 25 and 26. The Azzurre team endured another injury in today's practice when utility player Melany Sheldon sustained an injury to her left wrist. Team physician Dr. Alessandro Butta is optimistic that she will return to action tomorrow.
