Nettuno gets by Parma, Williamson suffers his first loss, Rimini victorious down south, Godo over Padova

The Godo Knights got by Tommasin Padova by the final of 6 to 5 on Friday evening.  The game turned out to be a good one between the two clubs that are fight for that 3rd spot in Division A. Padova took an early 1 to nothing lead off of Calero when they picked up a run in the 2nd inning thanks to an RBI double off the bat of Sciacca. The Knights came right back in the bottom of 3rd with a big 4 runs, which was highlighted by a 2 RBI single off the bat of Sanchez, who later came around to score the fourth run of the frame thanks to a hit up the middle by Silvestri. In the 7th both clubs were back at it crossing 2 runs apiece which kept the match at an even distance. The very next frame Padova made the game an interesting one when they were able to get to Ribeiro for 2 runs off of 2 hits with Pestana and Sciacca driving in a run apiece. That would be it however for Padova, as Ribeiro was able to buckle down in the 9th, stranding 3 runners on the sacs. Notably, Giuseppe Sciacca had a nice day with the stick, going 4 for 4 with 1 run scored and 3 RBI’s. Game two of this series will now move to Padova with a game time of 8:30 pm.

In Bologna, T&A San Marino was able to get to Williamson for 4 runs, handing him his first loss of the year. The final in this one was 4 to 1, with Guerra earning his 8th win of the season as he finished with a line of 5.1 innings pitched, 2 hits, 1 run, 4 walks and 8 strikeouts. San Marino got the scoring started in the first after Macaluso reached on a leadoff double down the leftfield line, and later came around to score on a sac fly off the bat of Vasquez. In the bottom of the same frame Bologna came back with one of their own on 1 hit and 3 walks, with Infante scoring the run after Rodriguez worked a basses loaded walk. In the 3rd San Marino picked up a big three off of Willimson thanks to a leadoff single by Albanese, a walk by Macaluso, and RBI singles by Duran, Vasquez and Mazzuca. That would be it for the scoring in this one, as both clubs mounds were able to successfully put up zeros the rest of the way. In the 9th, Cubilan came on for the save, which officially closed the books on only the second loss suffered by Bologna thus far in 2014. Game two of the two game set will take place this evening in San Marino at 8:30 pm.

In Division B, Nettuno was able to get by Lino’s Coffee Parma in Parma with a 2 to 1 win on Friday evening. The win in this one went to Rodriguez thanks to his 6 innings of impressive work on the bump before handing the ball over to Josè Lorenzo who came on for the 3 inning save. Neither team got on the board until Nettuno was able to get the scoring started in the 6th when Retrosi singled through the left side of the diamond, scoring Caradonna. In the 8th Nettuno picked up another one thanks to a double off the bat of Caradonna, which drove in Giordani. Parma picked up one of their own in the bottom half of the frame when Poma singled through the right side, driving in Giannetti from second. The game would finish however with the scoring stuck at 2-1 in favor of Nettuno. Both clubs will be back in action tonight with a game time of 8:30 pm in Parma.

Down in Nettuno, Rimini had no problems getting by Nettuno2 with a five to nothing win on the backs of Ekstrom, Marquez and Escalona. Rimini got their scoring started in the second when Chiarini led off the frame with a double to right off of Gonzalez, which put the score at 1-0. Rimini was back at it in the 5th when Santora double to right center, driving in Zileri and Di Fabio. In the 9th Rimini closed the door on Nettuno2 with another 2 runs off of Francesco Cozzolino, putting the score at its final of 5 to 0. Ekstrom picked up the win, and Escalona the save. The series will conclude tonight in Nettuno at 8:30 pm.
