Jairo Ramos Gizzi reaches 1000 hits in the Italian Baseball League

Last Friday was supposed to be his night in front of his home crowd in San Marino, however the accomplishment of 1000 career hits in the Italian Baseball League didn’t follow through exactly as planed, with San Marino’s left-handed DH and his followers having to wait just one more night on visiting soil for him to pass the 999 hit mark

Last Friday was supposed to be his night in front of his home crowd in San Marino, however the accomplishment of 1000 career hits in the Italian Baseball League didn’t follow through exactly as planed, with San Marino’s left-handed DH and his followers having to wait just one more night on visiting soil for him to pass the 999 hit mark. Hit number 1-0-0-0 came off of Bologna’s southpaw, Luca Panerati. After fighting his way to a full count in the 1st inning of Saturday evening’s game in Bologna, Ramos was able to knock home a run on an RBI double down the right field line, thus chocking up his 1000 career hit. Although this career accomplishment was somewhat diluted by his clubs loss that evening alongside their recent struggles to being the season, Jairo Ramos will go into the record books as one of the league best career hitter.

Jairo Ramos began his career back in 1998 with Grossetto, a team that he would play with for the better half of 12 seasons. In 2010 the left-handed slugger parted ways with his original Italian ballclub and headed to Bologna where he stayed for just a year. In 2011 Ramos then moved to San Marino where he has been ever since. With a number of titles to his name, this one veteran is still hungry for more, and despite his clubs slow start this season, look for them to be around in the end as long as they have his bat in the lineup. Currently the number is at 1001 and counting.

.320 + career batting average, 1001 hits, 101 homeruns and 621 RBI’s in this his 17th season in the IBL.
