Team Italy shuts out South Africa 15-0 in U12 Baseball World Cup

Team Italy shut out South Africa 15-0 in a four-inning mercy-rule rout at the U12 Baseball World Cup in Tainan, Taiwan on Saturday, July 30, 2022

After having to forfeit to Venezuela the day prior due to players testing positive for Covid-19, Team Italy made its U12 Baseball World Cup on-field debut in a fine style against South Africa on Saturday, July 30, 2022. The Italians played with vigor in a four-inning mercy-rule 15-0 shutout.

Azzurrini manager Stefano Burato used pitchers Noah Uttaro and Tommaso Destro to limit South Africa to just two singles with a combined eight strikeouts and two walks.

The Team Italy offense scored three runs in the bottom of the second and third innings before exploding with nine more in the bottom of the fourth inning to enforce the mercy rule. It was a total team effort as all but one player in the staring lineup registered hits in the 15-0 shutout over South Africa.
