Bussolengo the only club to remain undefeated.

Division AIn Division A of the Italian Softball League Rhibo La Loggia took sole possession of the top spot in the standings thanks to a series sweep over Banco di Sardegna Nuoro

Division A

In Division A of the Italian Softball League Rhibo La Loggia took sole possession of the top spot in the standings thanks to a series sweep over Banco di Sardegna Nuoro. Game one of the double dip on Saturday afternoon went by the final of 9 to 0 thanks to an 11 hit attack by La Loggia’s offense. The difference maker in this one was a 6 run 3rd that absolutely buried any chances of a comeback by Nuoro. With the bat, Sandra Bosdachin had a perfect 3 for 3 game, as did Sara Avanza with a 2 for 2 performance. On the mound Elisa Brandino picked up the complete game victory, moving to 2 and 1 on the season.

In game two of this two game set the story was more of the same for La Loggia, winning by the final of 11 to 4. Nuoro picked up 2 runs in the 1st, however Rhibo came back with 4 in the 2nd, 3 in the 3rd, and another 4 in the 4th. The series sweep pushes Rhibo to 5 and 1 on the season, while Nuoro drops to 1 and 3.

The only other series in the division took place in Staranzano between the Stars and Bollate. In game of on Saturday it was the Stars that got the best of Bollate, taking the game by the final of 3 to 1. 3 in the 4th would be all that the Stars would need to pick up the win with the combo of Teresa Cernecca (6.1 innings pitched, 0 hits, 1 run, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts) and Russi on the mound. Suffering the loss for Bollate was Serena Boniardi.

In game two Bollate bounced right back with the 1 to 0 victory, thus keeping pace with La Loggia in the standings. This one was quite the pitchers dual with between Greta Cecchetti and Endicott. Bollate was able to pick up the games only run in the 4th thanks to Costa’s single up the middle, which plated Nicolini.

Division B

In Division B Taurus Parma picked up their first win of the season while handing Labadini Collecchio their first loss in 2014. Things started off well for Collecchio with 1 in the 2nd and 2 in the 3rd, however Parma was able to take the previously undefeated softball club by surprise with a huge 5 run 4th and 3 run 5th. Collecchio gave it their all with 2 more in the top of the 7th, but it was to little to late for the girls out of Collecchio.  Alessia Zavaroni picked up the win for Taurus Old Parma, while DelRio suffered the loss.

In game 2 of the double header, Collecchio bounced right back in order to pick up their 5th victory of this young season. Madison Holub absolutely dominating in her outing in order to pick up her 3 win in as many weeks for her club. When it was all said and done her line read: 7 innings pitched, 2 hits 0 runs, 0 walks, and 20 strikeouts. Collecchio picked up the games only two runs in the top of the 1st thanks to RBI hits by both Holub and Longagnani. The final in this one was 2-0.

In Unione Fermana, Dino Bigioni hosted Caserta on Satuday. Both clubs entered into the weekend without a win on the season. In game one Caserta was able to break their string of losses, as they capitalized on 4 errors committed by Unione Fermana’s offense. Susanna Mancini picked up the win for Caserta with a complete game performance, while it was Luana Luconi that suffered the loss. Going yard for Caserta in the top of the 1st for Caserta was Yanit Aviles.

Game two of the two game set was suspended in the 6th due to heavy rainfall. The game was tied 1 to 1.

Finally the last series in Division B featured two undefeated clubs, Bussolengo and Fiorini Forlí. In the first of two outings on the day the game went into extra (9 innings), but went the dust settled it was Alice Ronchetti from Bussolengo that earned the victory with her complete game (9 innings pitched) performance. Bussolengo picked up 1 in the 1st, while Forlí was able to tie the game at 1-all in the 4th. The Game stayed this was through the 8th when both clubs scored two apiece. In the 9th however it was Bussolengo that got the last laugh with a walk off single to right center that scored Villirillo from third for the 4-3 victory.

Game two was a little less of a battle as Specchiasol Bussolengo was able to put the game away in 6 innings thanks to a big 5 run bottom half off of Ilaria Cacciamani. The final in this one was 7 to 0, with the win being picked up by Linn Kimberly Bruins. The win and series sweep now puts Bussolengo in 1st place all by themselves.
