What a day as once again the 2013 ISL schedule is shortened due to heavy rainfall up and down the Italian peninsula. Only 5 of 10 games on the schedule were played out on Saturday with some being rescheduled for today, and one being pushed back to a later date to be determined.
In division A all three series were swept over the course of the weekend. Beginning with the series between Banco di Sardegna Nuoro and AMG Legnano, the visiting Legnano club may have just closed the door on Nuoro’s 2013 playoff hopes by taking both games of the doubleheader on Saturday. Game one featured a matchup between Silvia Durot and Lindsey Beisser. Both starters went all 7 inings for their clubs but it was Durot that came out victorious in this one, 3 to 0. Durot allowed only 5 hits and 1 walk, as she was able to keep Nuoro’s offense completely off the board in the game. Game two was also taken by AMGA Legnano, 7-2. It wasn’t much of a pichers duel as both teams reached double digits in the hit column (11 by Legnano and 10 by Nuoro). Sally Ward earned the win, her 4th of the year.
The action in division A concluded on Sunday as the first place Bollate club easily took two away from a last place Collecchio squad. Game one was won by a 5 run differential as Kristen Wadwell picked up the ‘W’. She allowed only one hit and one run in 4 innings of work before giving way to Boniardi, who recorded the save for Bollate. The game finished 6-1. Game two was not much of a contest, the game finished early in a run rule with a final score of 13-1. Greta Cecchetti picked up the win, and Bollate keeps their distance over everyone in the standings.
The series in Bussolengo between Specchiasol Bussolengo and Rhibo La Loggia saw any playoff hope of the hometown team dissipate over the weekend. Rhibo was able to march onto Specciasol’s field and easy stroll away with two victories, which pretty much puts in cement (not 100% but close) a second place finish for them in division A. Game one was taken 9-2, finishing in 5 innings with Rhibo banging out a total of 14 hits in the contest. Van Dusschoten picked up her 9th win in 2013. The series was swept with a 7-2 win as Legnano fell short once again. Rhibo La Loggia scored two in the first, two in the third, and three in the seventh. Elisa Brandino recorded her fourth win of the year which betters her overall record to 4 and 1.
Over in division B only three of the four games were played, with two being pushed back to today, Sunday the 26th. On Saturday a first place Caserta team looked to take two easy games away from a winless Urbe Roma club, and they most likely would have done so if they were not stopped by the rain. Polisportiva Caserta took care of Roma in the one game that they did get in by a final score of 11-1. With the victory, Caserta improved their overall record to 15-6 on the year as Urbe Roma dropped to 0-17.
On Sunday Forli was able to put a smile on the faces of a Dino Bigioni Unione Fermana club that wasn’t on the schedule this week by splitting their series with The Blue Girls of Bologna. The series split keeps things very interesting in the division as only 1.5 games separates the number two from three. Bologna took game one of the doubleheader 4-2 thanks to a complete game performance to a now 9-2 Johana Gomez. In the game The Blue Girls came up with only 6 hits but they were able to capitalize on 3 Forli errors. In game two the tables turned with a 6-1 Fiorini Forli victory. The visiting team scored 3 in the 3rd, 2 in the 4th, and 1 in the 7th as they out hit Bologna and were able to pounce on the 3 errors, scoring 5 unearned runs in the game. Bologna’s loss drops them to 14-7 on the year, 1 game off the pace.
