ROME – Friday night saw a full plate of action in the Italian Baseball League.
Nettuno delivered the first shocker of the weekend, slamming San Marino 9-1 at home. Nettuno had come into the series as heavy underdogs and playing less than .500 baseball. For San Marino, it’s the first loss of the season, and the loss puts them half a game off the lead.
Bologna took sole possession of the league lead with their 3-0 shutout over the Rimini Pirates. Bologna limited the Pirate offense to just one hit on the night.
Godo needed extra innings to put last-place Novara away 4-3. Godo has already chalked up four wins on the season and is on pace to shatter their 2011 win-loss record. Novara remains winless and has been in last place for over a year, dating back to the 2011 regular season.
Parma pushed past Grosseto 3-2 in a squeaker. Parma will try to beat up on Grosseto in today’s scheduled doubleheader, in order to get over the .500 hump.
Saturday’s IBL line-up features a full day of doubleheaders.
