Italian Softball League looking to get games underway in better climate

ROME – This weekend’s schedule of the Italian Softball League features a monster match-up between the first- and second-place teams in the standings.

Last weekend much of the calendar got washed out, but the sun should shine across the boot shaped country.

Weather permitting, all eyes will be focused on the Caserta-Bollate battle. Caserta is atop the standings, boasting a 7-1 record, but Bollate is hot on their trail at 5-1.

Caserta also leads the league in team batting and team pitching categories.  The softballers from Caserta are smacking the softball around the field at close to a 29% success rate. Bianca Novelli has been leading the charge, hitting .765 over 17 ABs. On the defensive end of the game, Caserta pitchers have been stingy on the mound, yielding only a little more than 1 earned run per game.

Bollate is third in the league in team batting and ranks in second on the list for team pitching, but Bollate has Lindsey Meadows, who is leading the league in individual ERA with a 0.70 clip.

Third-place La Loggia will be idle this weekend and will look to make up ground on either Bollate or Castera from a neutral position.

Other action around the league:

Legnano will head over to Sardini to battle Nuoro in a pair of games.

Neighbors Forli and Bologna will duke it out in Forli. Both Forli and Bologna will come into battle with a .500 record.

Fermana and the Titano Hornets round out the action.  Both Fermana and Titato have only registered one victory on the season.
