SERIES "A" FED LEAGUE STILL BALANCED AFTER FOUR WEEKS OF PLAY

The Italian Series "A" Federal League is enjoying a rather competitive atmosphere after four complete weeks of play.  This is the Series A Federal League's inaugural season, and it's quite apparent that its teams are well-balanced given the fact that 15 of the 20 teams are at or above the .500 mark.  In the North Conference, the top 4 teams in the standings are separated by only 1 game, while in the South Conference, 8 teams are only 1 game behind leaders Palfinger Italia Reggio Emilia.  Elettra Energia Novara 2000 is the lone team in the league yet to have registered a win.  The team from Novara has opened up with an eight game slide.  Novara has been especially weak in the pitching department, allowing runs in the double digits in 7 of its 8 games.

In the North Conference, Eurodifarm Codogno was finally dealt its first loss of the season, splitting a doubleheader with Rebecchi Cariparma Piacenza.  ILCEA Rovigo continued to impress, as the 2009 Series B champions swept Juve 11-1 and 12-2.  Senago Milano United swept cross-town rivals Bollate 7-6 and 4-3.  Senago-Milano (5-1) is tied with Codogno (6-1) in the loss column. Cagliari and Rangers Redipuglia took a game apiece down in Redipuglia. Novara continued its woes against Ponte di Piave, surrendering both games of its doubleheader.

Action in the South Conference included an Arezzo-Florence sweep over Viberto.  Arezzo knocked Viberto out of first place with two wins, 11-4 and 3-2.  Viberto's loss on the road in Arezzo helped Palfinger move into prime position, although Palfinger only managed a split down in Anzio, 8-2 and 1-5.  Comcor Engineering Modena handed Acotel Urbe Rome two losses, 6-5 and a 16-0 seven inning blanking.  Collecchio and neighbors Poviglio split their doubleheader.  Poviglio took the afternoon match-up 8-7, while Collecchio shined under the lights to win 11-1 in eight short innings.  And down in Sicily, Sala Baganza greeted hosts Messina by putting 9 runs on the scoreboard in the 9-2 victory for Sala Baganza.  Messina retaliated in game 2, sending Sala Baganza back to the Province of Parma with a 7-1 loss.
