The Tournament of the Republic.. Softball
The Tournament of the Republic will get underway this weekend in Caronno, a tournament that is expected to be the first stepping-stone for the Italian National Softball team towards the World Cup of Softball that will take place later on this summer in Holland. Those invited to this year’s tournament include a group of athletes that will participate on the Senior club, along with two groups of young future stars that will make up two teams named ‘Azzurra’ and ‘Bianca’. “ The tournament is going to be a good test for us, and it’s going to be fundamental in helping us to determine who we will be representing team Italy at the World Cup in August,” expressed Marina Centrone (National Team’s Head Coach). “We’ve got a lot of work to take care of before we can even think about a final roster for this years main event in Holland, but this Tournament of the Republic is most defiantly an important stepping-stone in us coming up with the correct pieces for our club.”
The tournament will get underway on Friday the 30th at 7:00 pm with a matchup that will feature France and Caronno & Friends, while the first matchup for an Italian club wont take place until the 31st when both of the Junior National teams will go head to head it a game that is scheduled for 2:00 pm. As for the Senior Club, well they are going to have to wait the longest to take the diamond, with their first game set to take place at 5:00 pm on Saturday. On a side note, last year’s ‘Gold Glove’ awards in the Italian Softball League are scheduled to be handed before Saturday’s 5:00 pm game.
