Team Italy elite softball debut at the World Games postponed due to adverse weather

Lightning, thunder and rain kept the Team Italy women's softball team from playing USA in the World Games at Hoover Met Stadium in Hoover, Alabama on Saturday night, July 9, 2022. The game has been rescheduled for Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 6:30 pm (CT).

Due to bad weather, the Team Italy elite softball squad will have to wait until Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 6:30 pm (CT) to face USA in the World Games at Hoover Met Stadium in Hoover, Alabama. Despite the false start, the Italians resume action earlier in the day on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 1:30 pm (CT) for a clash against Canada before their rescheduled game against USA at 6:30 pm (CT). Then the Azzurre squad plays Chinese Taipei on Monday, July 11, 2022 at 1 pm (CT). The international competition continues through Wednesday, July 13, 2022.

Prior to the game being postponed, the Team Italy lineup card looked like this: Laura Vigna, LF; Amanda Fama, 1B; Melany Sheldon, SS; Elisa Cecchetti, C; Giulia Longhi, 3B; Sarah Edwards, DP; Alessandra Rotondo, 2B; Giulia Koutsoyanopulos, CF; Fabrizia Marrone, 2B; and Ilaria Cacciamani, P.

In other World Games softball contests, Puerto Rico defeated Mexico 3-1, and Chinese Taipei beat Canada 9-4. Japan was leading Australia by a score of 10-1 in the fourth inning before the game was suspended due to adverse playing conditions. Japan and Australia will resume their game on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 12:30 pm (CT). Forza #Italia!
