Team Italy departs for Canada for Women's Fastpitch Softball Championship

The Italian National Softball Team will open up the two week tournament against fellow Europeans, Team GB

The Italian National Softball Team concluded its preparations for the 2012 International Softball Federation Women's Softball World Championship, which is taking place in Whitehorse, Canada.

Team Italy skipper, Marina Centrone, sends her team into battle off the cusp of exhibition contests against the Czech Republic and several intersquad games.

"The training has yielded more benefits than I had anticipated, be it from a physical point of view to a technical point of view," Centrone stated.

Centrone's assessment of her team indicates that pitching and defense will be the Azzurre's strong suit.

"We need to work harder on the offensive aspect of the game," Centrone admitted.

The Azzurre departed from Milan Linate Airport Wednesday morning, with a 23:00 arrival time into Whitehorse.
