San Marino shines to open second-half of season; Bologna still in first-place

ROME – The Italian Baseball League has rounded second base, so to say

ROME – The Italian Baseball League has rounded second base, so to say.  Half the regular season is in the books and there is a lot of jockeying for position between the top-half of the standings.

The playoff pitcher almost looks to have been already set, as there is a definite gap between the top- and bottom-half of the league.

The top four teams will be awarded tickets to the postseason, and there is no seeding system in the IBL playoff season, as the league implements a round-robin playoff format.

San Marino started off the second-half of the season by taking out the brooms at home versus Novara.  San Marino edged by Novara two time by the score of 2-1 before extending their legs in the rubber match to win 10-4 and close out a successful 6-0 record versus Novara in 2012.

First-place Bologna won their series against Parma, but they Bolognesi did drop game 2.

Nettuno jumped out in front of Rimini to take the first two game of that series, but Rimini put on the brakes to shutout Nettuno 4-0 and salvage the weekend. Nettuno now sits in their highest position of the season in second-place.

Grosseto won their second series of the year, taking two games from Godo on the road in Ravenna.
