ROME – The battle on the Adriatic Sea for Italian baseball supremecy has endured five games thus far, and the series will be decided in either the next game or the one following that.  In any case, a champion will be crowned in San Marino, where the Italian Baseball Series will inevitably conclude.

San Marino jumped out to a screaming three games to none advantage, before being handed their first lost in a 10-inning, extra-inning thriller.  San Marino had nearly polished off the Pirates in four games, but the ghosts of the rivalry haunted the San Marino.

Again with their backs against the scorching wall, Rimini sandblasted San Marino for an 8-2 Game 5 win, which takes the series back to San Marino for the final chapter/s.

With just one more win to secure the championship, it seems San Marino is in the driver’s seat, but Rimini’s bats have heated up like the current heat wave that is baking Italy and putting the “hot” in the ballpark hot dogs.

The series will resume Friday night under the lights. San Marino hopes Saturday will be the first day of preparations for 2013, while Rimini hopes it will be crunch time.
