San Marino defeats Rimini to repeat as Italian Baseball League champions

ROME – San Marino ended the Italian Baseball Championship Series with a 5-4 Game 6 victory over fierce rival Rimini before a packed house at Serravalle Stadium.

It was San Marino’s third attempt at trying to close out the series, as the base-ballers from tiny Republic of San Marino jumped out to a 3-0 series lead over their “crosstown” rival.

San Marino and Team Italy National Team pitcher Tiago Da Silva shut down the Rimini Pirate offense and cruised to a complete game victory; although, Da Silva was roughed up for all 4 of Rimini’s runs in the top of the 7th, but managed to recover and throw up some more goose eggs and close the books on the Pirates.

The series win not only secures San Marino’s place in the story book of Italian baseball, but also gives San Marino bragging rights in the baseball hotbed of the Adriatic Sea region.

San Marino has reached the championship series in four out of the last five years, achieving the maximum result three times since 2008
