Italian Softball League regular season concludes

ROME – The regular-season of the Italian Baseball League concluded with no major surprises

ROME – The regular-season of the Italian Baseball League concluded with no major surprises.  Caserta, reigning ISL champion, reasserted its position at the top of the food-chain, dropping only 4 games on the season and finishing with a bang, as the softballers from Caserta piled on 24 runs over the final two games to sweep Nuoro on the road in Sardinia.

La Loggia crossed the finish-line in second-place, thanks to a nail biting sweep against last-place Fermana.  La Loggia barely skated past Fermana 2-1 in the double-header opener, but added some distance in the nightcap, taking that contest 5-1.

Bollate traveled to crosstown rival Legnano, where each team pulled off shutouts against the other.  Legnano ended its season with a 4-0 win, but the game was bitter-sweet, as Legnano failed to make the playoffs.

In a series with no bearing on the playoff picture, Forli and the Titano Hornets divvied up the wins.  The win for the Hornets took them to double-digit territory in the win column.

Turning to the stat book, Caserta led the league in team hitting (.338), pitching (1.47 ERA) and fielding (.965).  Caserta’s Bianca Novelli neared the .500 mark to take the individual batting title, just edging out teammate Hailey Wiginton (.491). Caserta’s Anjelica Selden posted a league-high 15 wins and league-low 0.65 ERA.

The league’s strikeout queen was Fermana’s Kimberly Reeder.
