Team Italy wins by forfeit 7-0 due to the British federation's failure to register its roster but still plays abbreviated game halted by injury sustained by Great Britain pitcher Amy Morris

Team Italy demonstrated great sportsmanship by playing Great Britain even when guaranteed a 7-0 forfeit victory against the British at the European Softball Championship in Enschede, the Netherlands on Friday, July 22, 2022.

The Italians got on the board early off Great Britain pitcher Amy Morris with two runs in the top of the first inning. Sveva Moggi walked and later scored on an outfield error which allowed Elisa Zanolla to reach second base. Elisa Zanolla advanced to third base on a wild pitch and crossed the plate on an RBI groundout by Eleonora Cesena.

Team Italy sent out starting pitcher Federica Forlani, who threw two scoreless innings and gave up two hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

The game was called shortly after Mirta Anselmi tripled and scored Italy's third run on a wild pitch in the top of the third inning. Team Italy shortstop Sveva Moggi drilled a line drive which hit Great Britain pitcher Amy Morris directly on the forehead. The British hurler fell to ground and medical staff from both teams attended to her. She was eventually escorted off the field, but Great Britain did not have any other pitchers available. As a result, the Brits chose not to continue the game and surrendered to the Italians.

The fate of Team Italy (7-1) is now determined by the result of the game between Czech Republic (7-0) and Kingdom of the Netherlands (6-1). A Dutch win with less than six runs given up would relegate Team Italy to the battle for the bronze on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 4:15 pm (local time). Otherwise, Team Italy will compete for the gold immediately following the bronze medal game at 6:30 pm (local time). Forza #Italia!
