Caserta pulling away in Italian Softball League, but playoff picture far from set

ROME -  The softballers from Caserta have continued to distance themselves from the rest of the Italian Softball League field

ROME -  The softballers from Caserta have continued to distance themselves from the rest of the Italian Softball League field.  Caserta improved to 22-4 on the season and is now enjoying a full seven-game lead over second-place La Loggia.

Bollate was the lastest victim of Caserta.  Bollate first suffered a 10-1 bushwhacking Saturday afternoon at home, and was unable to find a solution to compete with Caserta, dropping the tail-end of the doubleheader, 8-4.

Bollate still remains in the playoff hunt with a record of 11-11, which is good enough for fourth-place at the moment.

The top four teams in the IBL standings will earn tickets to the postseason; the bottom half of the league will have to follow the games through online streaming.

The bottom-half of the league wasn’t able to make up any ground on Caserta, but fifth-place Forli is only a half-game behind Bollate.  Forli split two games with third-place Bologna.

Legnano may be poised to make a move, having swept Nuoro.  Legnano remains within playoff striking distance and is only one-game in back of Bollate.

In a battle for pride, the second-to-last-place Titano executed a one-two punch of last-place Fermana.

Second-place La Loggia had the week off, but went from 6 to 7 games behind Caserta.
