After a five-year absence from the WBSC U18 Baseball World Cup, when Team Italy placed ninth in Thunder Bay, Canada, the Italians return to the 30th edition of the international competition in Sarasota and Bradenton, Florida from September 9-18, 2022. Team Italy U18 manager Francesco Aluffi will bring his young and talented baseball squad to Florida after competing in the U18 European Baseball Championship in Ostrava and Brno, Czech Republic from August 13-20, 2022
The WBSC U18 Baseball World Cup will feature over 50 games during the course of the nine-day world championship at LECOM Park and Ed Smith Stadium in Florida. The tournament was scheduled to take place last September but was postponed to 2022 due to the continued impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Team Italy is in Group B with Japan, Chinese Taipei, Mexico, Panama and Australia. The Italians make their debut against Japan at Ed Smith Stadium, in Sarasota on Friday, September 9, 2022 at 3 pm (local time). Group A includes USA, Korea, Kingdom of the Netherlands, Canada, Brazil and South Africa.
The top three teams from Group A will play the top three teams from Group B in the Super Round from September 15-17. 2022. The World Championship and Bronze Medal Games take place at Ed Smith Stadium, in Sarasota on Sunday, September 18, 2022.
The U18 Baseball World Cups, along with its continental qualifiers, have consistently featured players who have gone on to become some of the biggest names in the sport, including Japan’s Yu Darvish and Shohei Ohtani; Korea’s Shin-Soo Choo; Cuba’s Yasiel Puig and Aroldis Chapman; and USA's Clayton Kershaw, Bryce Harper, Francisco Lindor, Manny Machado and Buster Posey, Forza #Italia!
