Team Italy falls to the Dominican Republic 9-4 at U15 Baseball World Cup

Despite outhitting the Dominican Republic and showing sparks of offense from Francesco Carlini (2-for-2, 2 RBI), Patrick Silva (1-for-3, 2B, R), Federico Magalotti (1-for-3, RBI, 2 BB), Matteo Chinello (1-for-2, RBI, BB) and Ivan Larice (1-for-1), Team Italy lost their final U15 Baseball World Cup Group A Opening Round game by a score of 9-4 at Edgar Renteria Baseball Stadium in Barranquilla, Colombia on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. The Italians return for a 7th-12th Placement Round battle against the Kingdom of the Netherlands on Thursday, August 22nd.

Against the Dominican Republic in the U15 Baseball World Cup on Tuesday, August 20, 2024,  Team Italy manager U15 Giuseppe Mazzanti put together the following lineup: Federico Magalotti (CF), Francesco Carlini (SS), Pablo Suarez (3B), Patrick Silva (1B), Alessio Casasanta (DH), Nicolò Mariani (2B), Giovanni Pucci (C), Matteo Chinello (RF) and Cristian Severino (LF).

Italian starting pitcher Leonardo Prizzon (IP, H, 6 R, 4 BB, K) had control issues early in the bottom of the first inning when surrendering six runs. Team Italy answered with two runs in the top of the second inning after four walks by starter Wilver Canario and an RBI single from Francesco Carlini. 

Relievers Federico Carlomè (4.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, ER, 2 BB, 7K) and Cristian Severino (0.2 IP) tried their best to limit the damage and keep Team Italy in the contest. 

The Azzurrini scored once in the top of the fourth inning after Giovanni Pucci walked and later crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Francesco Carlini. The young and talented Italians put up another run on the board in the top of the fifth inning when Patrick Silva doubled down the right field line and scored on an RBI single from Matteo Chinello to make it a 6-4 game. 

The Dominican Republic added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and went on to win by a score of 9-4.
