Team Italy manager Mike Piazza pays tribute to fallen U.S. soldiers at the Florence American Cemetery on Memorial Day

Mike and Alicia Piazza spent U.S. Memorial Day at the Florence American Cemetery in Tuscany, Italy

Team Italy manager Mike Piazza and his wife, Alicia Piazza, visited the Florence American Cemetery on Memorial Day. Special guest of the American Battle Monuments Commission while representing MLB, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and the New York Mets, Mike Piazza attended the annual Memorial Day ceremony for the fallen U.S. soldiers who died on the battlefields in Northern Italy during the final years of World War II. Over 4400 servicemen and women were laid to rest at the Florence American Cemetery.

Mike Piazza said, "These brave soldiers, many of them teenagers, paid the ultimate price for our freedom and made the ultimate sacrifice. Freedom, of which we sometimes take for granted. Unfortunately, it has been a practice recently to point out what is wrong with America, I wish to say here are the thousands of reasons to celebrate and cherish America. So while you are enjoying your barbecue or day at the beach, take a moment to reflect on why we are so blessed. When you come back to Europe, say hello to the guys and gals here, I’m sure they would love to see you. God Bless and Happy Memorial Day."
