Five days after arriving in Peoria the Italian National team took the field at the Peoria Sports Complex to take on a selection of prospects from the Seattle Mariners organization in a couple of exhibition games. The two squads met on the diamond for the first time on Tuesday the 26th where the Mariners took the game 5 to 1. The final tallies saw 2 hits (Reginato e Ambrosino) on the Italian side to 9 collected by Mariners. Head coach, Marco Mazzieri, was able to get 7 of his pitchers on the mound in the first game, and he seemed to be pleased with what he saw.

In the second of the two games Mazzieri’s team pushed 6 runs across to Seattle’s 4. The team had 7 total hits, 3 by Chiarini, and RBI’s by Pantaleoni, Ambrosino, Vaglio, and Reginato. Once again a number of pitchers had their chance on the mound, as the Mariners batters went up against seven different arms, most notably Alessandro Maestri, as he began his preparation for his third straight World Baseball Classic with team Italy.

Mazzieri’s squad will be take the field again this Friday the 1st and Saturday the 2nd of March against a team of young prospects put together by the Los Angeles Dodgers at their training complex as team Italy looks to continue their preparation towards their first game of the 2013 WBC against Mexico on the 7th of March.
