San Marino was given a little more then they expected by the Eagles from Prague, but in the end were able to come out with the 8-3 victory in the first game of the 2013 European Champions Cup. At the beginning of the game Merritt was able to hold San Marino’s offense in check, while the Eagles offense got to San Marino’s starter, Meschini for 2 runs in 3.1 innings of work. With one out in the 4th Bindi went to D’Amico who bailed T&A out of a bases loaded 1 out jam, allowing only one run to pass (charged to Meschini). D’Amico picked up the ‘W’ for San Marino, throwing 4.2 as his team went onto score five in the seventh. Ramos was 3 for 4 and Mazzuca went 2 for 2. Cubillan came on for a scoreless 9th, no save was recorded.

T&A San Marino will take on Unipol Bologna in a matchup of IBL teams on Wednesday afternoon at 15.00 in Rengensburg, Germany.

In Barcelona, the Rimini Pirates took on Corendon Kinheim in what turned out to be quite a game, aclassic so to speak, with Rimini taking home the 1-0 victory in the bottom of the 11th thanks to a bases loaded walk off single by Romero. The game was without a doubt a nail biting pitchers duel as both Bazardo (Rimini) and Bergman (Kinheim) held their ground for the duration that they were in the game. Bazardo was especially effective in his 8 innings of work. Rimini’s righty threw 8 scoreless innings of 1 hit ball, as he struck out 11 and walked only 2. Marquez came on to take care of the final three innings of the game. He wasn’t his dominate self, however the lefty got out of some difficult situations and got the job done by picking up the win. Zileri, Romero and Babini all had 2 hits each in the game for Rimini, while the right fielder, Chiarini, went 3 for 4.

Rimini will be back at it on Wednesday in a matchup with the host team, C.B. Barcelona at 19.30.
