Iren, one of the largest and most dynamic multi-utility companies in Italy, has partnered with Federazione Italian Baseball Softball by becoming the golden sponsor of the Seniors European Baseball Championship in Piemonte from September 12-19, 2021

Iren operates in the sectors of electricity, thermal energy, heating and gas as well as in the management of integrated water, environmental and technological services. The eco-friendly electricity producer for more than 76% of its electrical production proudly supports the Seniors European Baseball Championship in Piemonte from September 12-19, 2021 on the diamonds of Torino, Avigliana and Settimo Torinese.

A press conference was recently held in Torino to announce Iren as the golden sponsor of the Seniors European Baseball Championship in Piemonte. Attendees included Iren Energia CEO Giuseppe Bergesio, Federazione Italiana Baseball Softball (FIBS) Secretary General Giampiero Curti, FIBS Federal Councilor Marco Mannucci, FIBS representative Nicola "Faso" Fasani, Torino Mayor Chiara Appendino, Avigliana Mayor Andrea Archinà and Piemonte Region Director of Sport Paola Casagrande. In addition, FIBS President Andrea Marcon and Piemonte Region President Alberto Cirio joined in the festivities via video conference.

Iren is based in Torino and has always been pivotal in supporting the well-being of the community by sponsoring important events that showcase the area’s vast offering of culture and sport. In light of the pandemic which has idled many for the past 18 months, Iren believes it is time to come out of the darkness and into the light with the golden sponsorship of the European Baseball Championship.

Piemonte Region President Alberto Cirio said, “Iren has been a patriarch in our community and the company’s presence at the European Baseball Championship is of paramount importance. I want to thank FIBS President Marcon and all of his staff for the great work they are doing to promote Piemonte through sport. It will be the first of major sporting events which also includes tennis and cycling competitions that will be hosted in our region. These international events will serve as major tourist attractions.”

Torino Mayor Chiara Appendino added, “The European Baseball Championship has brought together three municipalities and a series of sponsors who believed in this event. It will not only have a positive impact on our economy but also introduce the sport to our young athletes. Baseball will lead the way in a series of events such as the ATP tennis tournament and the UEFA Women's Champions League final."

FIBS President Andrea Marcon said, ”The European Baseball Championship in September will mark the highlight of our organizational season. We have already seen success in winning the Women’s European Softball Championship title in Friuli Venezia Giulia and our U18 baseball squad qualifying for the Baseball World Cup after a strong showing in the European Baseball Championship in Macerata and Montegranaro. At the end of August, we will be hosting the U23 European Baseball Championship in Verona. During such a difficult year, I can only express satisfaction for what we are doing. We have chosen Piemonte as the site for continued success, and I am confident in our ability to execute the game plan. I want to thank our sponsors who have placed their trust in us and enable us to do our best work.”

FIBS Federal Councilor Marco Mannucci concluded, "It is a great pleasure for me to be here and for us to keep the level of excitement about the event elevated. But more importantly the European Baseball Championship provides an optimal opportunity to bring in new fans.” Forza #Italia! ..
