There was a fantastic turnout for games one and two of the 2013 ISL finals on Saturday in La Loggia, and all those in attendance were treated to a fantastic opening to this evenly matched series.

In game one of the best of five series, Rhibo La Loggia’s fast start in the bottom of the first was the difference. It only took two batters to come to the plate before they were able to cross the games first two runs, a hit batter (Blaauwgeers) and a two run homer off the bat of Amanda Fama, just like that Bollate was already looking up hill with a very tough Femke Van Dusschote on the mound. The scoring however didn’t finish their for Rhibo in the 1st, as the very next batter, Sara Avanzi, also circled the bases with one swing of the bat to make it a three - nothing game. The 500 fans in attendance saw their home team off to a running start with some early offense; all while knowing that they had one of the leagues top arms on the mound.

Van Dusschoten defiantly had her way with the leagues second best offense on in game one. Her brilliant 7 inning complete game performs was nothing but dominate. Van Dusschoten allowed only two base runners in the game, both reaching on singles, and both being stranded at first, as she outdueled Kristen Wadwell (6 ip, 7 h, 3, r, 3 bb, 4 so) for the win.

In the second game of the day and of the series, the tides changed in the wins loss column when Sanotint Bollate got the best of Elisa Brandino and the shaky defense behind her. The game finished 3 to 1 in favor of Bollate as the visiting team rode a brilliant 3 hit performance by the Greta Cecchetti.

Bollate got things going in the top of inning 2 when Alice Nicolini singled up the middle with two outs, driving in Elisa Rocchi for the games first run. In the top of the 3rd Bollate was right back at it, picking up two more runs thanks to La Loggia kicking the ball around on the infield. Both runs in the frame were unearned, coming off of two defensive mishaps, and with the game now 3-0 Rhibo went to their pen for Stella Turazzi, which ended Brandino day.

La Loggia’s offense sputtered in game two off of Cecchetti, coming up with only 3 hits and 3 walks in the match. One of the hits did produce a run with a single swing when Lucia Carlucci poked one out of the park in the bottom of the 9th with 1 out, making it a 2 run game. Before it was all said and done the home team did make it interesting by putting the tying run on base, but with two outs Cecchetti ended the game by getting Pizzorni to swing through strike three.
