04/07/2021
After successfully defending the Women's European Softball Championship throne in Friula-Venezia Giulia on July 3, 2021, Team Italy is already back at work preparing for the Tokyo Olympics.

With the Tokyo Olympics opener against Team USA on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, Team Italy has little time to celebrate the back-to-back Women's European Softball Championship titles resulting in a berth to the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama. Having FIBS President Andrea Marcon and Vice President Roberta Soldi by his side, Team Italy manager Federico Pizzolini officially announced the names of the players selected for the Olympics roster on Sunday, July 4, 2021.

In addition to competing against the top-ranked Americans in Tokyo, Team Italy will also battle Australia, Canada, Mexico and host Japan. In memory of the late and great Italian manager Enrico Obletter, the Azzurre softball squad would like nothing more than to bring home a medal #PerEnrico. In fact, after Team Italy was declared the winner of the Europe-Africa Olympic Qualifier, Enrico Obletter promised Italian Olympic Committee President Giovanni Malagò to bring home a medal.

The following players have been selected to depart on July 9, 2021 for Sendai, where Team Italy will be hosted and play a series of exhibition games prior to the start of the Tokyo Olympic Games:

Ilaria Cacciamani (P / OF), Emily Patricia Carosone (2B / DP), Elisa Cecchetti (C / OF), Greta Cecchetti (P), Amanda Lynn Fama (SS), Andrea Marie Filler (IF), Marta Gasparotto (C / IF), Andrea Howard (IF / OF), Giulia Metaxia Koutsoyanopoulos (1B), Alexia Lacatena (P), Giulia Longhi (3B), Fabrizia Marrone (OF), Erika Piancastelli (C / OF) and Beatrice Ricchi (OF). Laura Vigna (OF) will join the group on July 19, 2021.

The Team Italy staff will consist of Federico Pizzolini (manager), Giovanna Palermi (coach), Julio La Rosa (pitching coach), Gateano Schiavottiello (doctor), Ulisses Hernandez (physiotherapist), Elio Paolini (physiotherapist), Francesca Ambruoso (athletic trainer), and Roberta Soldi (delegation manager). Forza #Italia! #PerEnrico
