Team Italy finished ahead of Canada and South Africa in the U18 Baseball World Cup after suffering a 5-1 loss to Brazil at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Florida on Saturday, September 17, 2022.

Despite losing to Brazil 5-1 in their final U18 Baseball World Cup Placement Round (7 to 12) game, Team Italy placed 10th in the international competition in Bradenton and Sarasota, Florida. The Italians defeated Canada (11th place) and South Africa (12th place) during the 30th edition of the tournament. Team Italy placed ninth the last time competing in the 2017 U18 Baseball World Cup in Thunder Bay, Canada.

Brazil pitching held Team Italy hitless until the sixth inning when Edoardo Cornelli singled and later scored on an RBI double from Williams Wong to score the Italians only run of the ballgame. A single by Marco Ragionieri in the seventh inning was the only other spark of Italian offense.

The South Americans were in complete control of the contest having scored one run in the first inning and four more in the fourth inning off Team Italy starting pitcher Riccardo Nepoti. Relievers Matteo Marelli (1.1 IP, 3H, 1K) and Cristian Laghi (1 IP, 1K) were effective in keeping Brazil off the board
