The U-18 Italian Baseball World Cup journey starts with an embrace in Toronto

A high-performance training program arranged with the support of Canadian friends and firms with Italian hearts

Toronto’s influential Italian community has organized a warm welcome for the U-18 National Team to provide advanced preparation for the World Cup, scheduled in Bradenton and Sarasota, near Tampa, Florida from September 9 to 18.

'Ciccio' Aluffi’s boys will take part in a robust program coordinated by Flavio Volpe and the “Azzurri’s” technical staff, from August 29 to September 5. Centred on training sessions at Toronto’s celebrated Baseline Sports Complex, the program also features a technical showcase with Between The Lines, and friendlies against the University of Toronto, the University of Waterloo, York University and Toronto Metropolitan University.

The athletic program will be complemented by cultural events with Italian Consul General Luca Zelioli and the attendance of the Italian delegation at the Rogers Center - including Hall of Famer Mike Piazza - with Blue Jays fans, before watching a game against the Cubs.

The Azzurri will feel right at home when they sit down as guests of some of the city’s best Italian restaurants Ascari, Cafè Diplomatico, Via Mercanti Woodbridge, Buono College, Nodo Restaurants and Eataly Toronto.  In addition, Zito’s will provide home-style Italian meals for the team during their Canadian camp.

Other Ontario companies are also involved in the Italia Baseball World Adventure: Seven View Chrysler is providing vehicles for the team's transportation around town and they will be joined by four other Official Team Partners. Corriere Canadese, Canada’s only Italian-language daily newspaper, will have their logo on the sleeve of the uniform. Baseline Sports will appear on the side of the batting helmet. Finally, ICCO (Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario) and Lido Construction will appear on the Azzurri’s training t-shirts. This is a team effort, in every aspect of the word, preparing for a heavily anticipated event - by us and by kids from all over the world.
