Claudio Scotti, a 23-year-old pitcher who grew up in Rome and perfected his craft as a resident at the FIBS Academy in Tirrenia under Italian baseball hall of fame director Bill Holmberg, was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates when he was 18. He spent the 2016-17 seasons in the Gulf Coast Rookie League where he made a total of 13 appearances and put together a 1-2 record (2.84 ERA) with nine strikeouts and 14 walks in 19 innings of work.
For the past three years, Claudio Scotti has been pitching for Fortitudo UnipolSai Bologna, where he helped the team claim two Italian Baseball Series Championship titles and one Champions Cup. He was very successful in 2021 registering five wins and a 2.15 ERA with 87 strikeouts and 24 walks in 50.1 innings pitched.
Having represented Team Italy in various international youth competitions (including the 2015 U18 World Cup), Claudio Scotti has most recently been seen wearing the Italian national team jersey at the U23 European Baseball Championship (two starts, seven innings pitched, 16 strikeouts and no runs allowed) in Verona and at the Seniors European Baseball Championship in Piemonte where he won his pitching debut against Greece when throwing five hitless innings with nine strikeouts and one walk.
Claudio Scotti is expected to begin his journey abroad in 2022 when Mets Spring Training begins in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Forza #Italia!
