ROME – The start of the Italian Softball Championship Series was met with cloudy skies and a drenching of the field, which had the grounds crew working feverishly as not to have the entire weekend washed out.

By Sunday, the weather was favorable, and the grounds crew were proudly patting themselves on the back with their green thumbs. Slick areas and puddles that were familiar sights on Saturday in Bollate were made things of the past.

When the bell finally sounded, Caserta came out of the corner swinging for the fences.  The softballers from down south took a closely contested series opener by the score of 2-1.  Bollate actually outhit Caserta 4-2, but Bollate gave up both runs via errors, giftwrapping the game for Caserta.

In the nightcap, it was another one run game by the score of 2-1.  This time, Bollate took care of the ball better, and it was Caserta the victim of sloppy play, conceded the decisive run by way of an error.

The series will resume this weekend in Caserta.
