A heartfelt message from FIBS President Andrea Marcon on behalf of the Obletter family in response to the outpouring of love and compassion after the recent passing of Team Italy women's softball manager Enrico Obletter:
Today we took Enrico back home. On behalf of Giovanna, of all their loved ones and of the larger family made up of our team, I would like to send my sincere thanks to the thousands of people who have wanted to express their closeness and condolences in recent days. We will try to acknowledge everyone individually, but it will not be easy to reach everyone. I am particularly moved by how much the concept of 'family' is present in the thoughts we have received and there is no doubt that this is exactly how we feel, part of a family of which Enrico was both mind and heart.
From a coaches point of view, we made the right choice in entrusting Enrico with the leadership of Italian softball. But the fact that so many individuals who knew him personally as well of those who knew only of his coaching legacy saw Enrico as an inspirational human being is astonishing and deeply moving. From this day on, with Enrico in our hearts, we resume the journey, in our best efforts to perform in way which will make him proud.
