The Federazione Italiana Baseball Softball (FIBS) Competition Organizing Committee has officially released the schedule for the 2020 Italian Baseball Series between UnipolSai Bologna and San Marino. FIBS President Andrea Marcon, FIBS Vice Presidents Fabrizio De Robbio and Gigi Mignola, and the two competing ballclubs have agreed that the best-of-seven game 2020 A1 Baseball Championship will alternate venues after each contest with the exception of a possible game seven. Since UnipolSai Bologna (23-4) had a better regular season record than San Marino (21-4), UnipolSai Bologna will have home team advantage if a game seven is necessary, but the decisive game will be played in San Marino.
UnipolSai Bologna will host Italian Baseball Series game one on September 17, 2020, game three on September 21, 2020, and game five (if necessary) on September 23, 2020. San Marino will be the venue for championship game two on September 18, 2020, game four on September 22, 2020, game six on September 25, 2020 (if necessary), and game seven on September 26, 2020 (if necessary).
All championship games will begin at 2 pm (EDT) and be seven innings in length with no tie-breaker rule in effect. The AFI Italian-born and developed pitcher rule only applies to games two and five. FIBS hopes to create the best competitive conditions while ensuring the health and safety of players, coaches, staff, umpires, and fans. FIBS President Andrea Marcon said, "The agreement reached between the two clubs, with whom I was in contact from the moment of qualification for the final, embodies the spirit of collaboration that has characterized this entire season. I want to thank everyone for their commitment and pride despite the difficult challenges we faced in 2020." Forza #Italia!
