Prior to the start of official business agenda for the 45th meeting of the Federazione Italiana Baseball Softball (FIBS) Federal Council on June 12, 2020, FIBS President Andrea Marcon paid tribute to the late and great international softball ambassador Don Porter. Having championed softball as an Olympic sport, the 90-year-old Southern California native spent three decades as a U.S. Olympic Committee board of director, while concurrently serving 35 years as executive director of the Amateur Softball Association and another 15 years as the president of the International Softball Federation.
After approving the minutes of the previous Federal Council session, the first topic of discussion centered around the scheduling of the activities of the national teams during the remainder of 2020. It was agreed that the issue will be addressed further in detail at the next scheduled meeting on Thursday, June 25, 2020.
With the prior approval of the Italian Government and Comitato Olimpico Nazionale Italiano (CONI), the FIBS Federal Council ratified the Official Protocol for Seniors and Youth competitions. In addition, the FIBS Federal Council decided to suspend the activities of the National Academy for the 2020-2021 academic year due to logistical issues related to recent school closures. Instead, a new technical project enhancing opportunities on the local level will debut during 2021-2022.
