In her first at-bat for the University of New Mexico (UNM) Lobos against the USA Olympic Team in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, California on Thursday, February 20, 2020, Team Italy slugger Andrea Howard hit a home run over the center field fence to score the Lobos only run in the 10-1 loss to Team USA. Having a knack for displaying offensive prowess in international competition, UNM junior Andrea Howard played well for Team Italy three weeks ago in the Australia Pacific (AP) Cup against Olympic foe Japan when she got hits in two close games against the Japanese. The versatile outfielder was one of the Azzurre squad's best hitters in the AP Cup by going 5-for-16 (.312 batting average) with two doubles, one walk, three runs scored, and two RBI.
Serving as the cleanup hitter for the University of New Mexico, Andrea Howard has started in all 14 games to date. She currently leads the Lobos (6-8) in home runs (5), RBI (16), and slugging percentage (.718), while hitting .282 with two doubles and seven walks. Andrea Howard went head-to-head against Team Italy's Elisa Princic and the University of San Diego (USD) Toreros on Saturday, February 22, 2020 in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. She went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI in the 6-5 loss to USD, while Elisa Princic was hitless in two at-bats. USD freshman Elisa Princic has made four starts so far for the Toreros (7-6) and has compiled a respectable .308 batting average with five runs scored, one walk, and one stolen base.
