Italian American Baseball Foundation (IABF) Advisory Committee member Brian De Angelis in association with Philadelphia Phillies Triple-A affiliate Lehigh Valley Ironpigs have put together a top-notch Italian Heritage Night at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania on May 10, 2019. Legendary pitcher John “The Count” Montefusco, the 1975 National League Rookie of the Year, will be joined by “A Bronx Tale” and “The Sopranos” actor Lillo Brancato on the field in a special pregame ceremony prior to the 7:05 pm (EDT) first pitch to the visiting Indianapolis Indians.
Staten Island, New York native Brian Esposito is the manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates Triple-A affiliate Indianapolis Indians. The former University of Connecticut (UConn) All-Star catcher was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 2000 MLB draft and played professionally for 13 seasons including stints with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2007 and the Houston Astros in 2010. It would not be a surprise to see IABF Fundraising Committee member Stephen Leonetti come out to support the former UConn baseball standout as he is the director of player development and baseball operations at UConn. The IABF is a registered 501(c)(3) charity that is committed to the future of baseball and softball for Italian and Italian American youths on the high school, college and professional levels.
In addition to working with Minor League Baseball’s Lehigh Valley Ironpigs Italian Heritage Night, the IABF is set to launch Italian Heritage Nights at two MLB ballparks this year.
