Italian Softball League clubs come up short in European Cups

Italy sent three teams to the two European softball cups, including defending champions for both, but came up short in both.

In the Champions' Cup, Forli' finished third, and Bussolengo finished fourth, as both missed the championship game in which Sparks Haarlem (Netherlands) topped Prague (Czech Republic) for a title that Italy is accustomed to having a team compete for and often win.  Forli' was knocked out in the semifinal by Prague 2-0, as Jessica Moore gave up the game's only two runs in the top of the first before the second out of the game. After that early outburst there would be no more runs, and only five more hits for the two teams combined, as Emily Vincent pitched five one-hit innings of relief for the Italians, but seven scoreless innings with only three hits by Czech starter Peckova kept Italy off the board and out of the tournament.

Meanwhile in the Cup Winners' Cup there was also an Italian disappointment, as Legnano battled Olympia Haarlem and rallied from a 3-0 deficit, to take a 4-3 lead into the final inning, but a two run Van Veen homerun lifted the Dutch to the title.
