Unipol Bologna hosts T&A San Marino on Friday night to begin the 8th week of play in the IBL

The eighth week of the Italian Baseball Season will begin tonight, Friday the 24th, in Bologna with a matchup between Unipol and T&A San Marino. Both teams will be looking to get back into the swing of things after not playing like their usual selves their last couple of time out on the field. Nonetheless both these teams are sitting pretty when it comes to the standings with one week to go before the 2013 IBL hits the halfway point (1st Bologna 10-2, 4th San Marino 10-4).

This week San Marino will be able to count on the services of Giovanni Pantaleoni but will be still missing the likes of Lorenzo Avagnina. As for the rest of the lineup it should be business as usual. “We’ve had a couple of tough losses over the past two weekends, but now its time to see where we’re at with two tough matches over the next two weeks before hitting the halfway point.” (Manager, Doriano Bindi) Starting on the bump tonight for San Marino will be the American, Magrane.

Unipol Bologna bolstered their roster over the past week after having lost two games to Nettuno on the road (their first two losses of the season). Expected to be available for Nanni (manager) in this series will be three new arms, Luque, Clerici and Pugliese. Luque will most likely be given the ball as the teams starting foreign pitcher as Rivero is expected to move back to the pen. Pugliese will also most likely get in a game over the weekend out of the pen; if he does it will be his first appearance this year. As for Clerici, if he doesn’t get in against T&A he will be utilized with the IBL2 squad on Sunday in order to prepare for the European Cup which is on the schedule for next week.

Those in attendance for tonight’s game in Bologna will receive strawberries upon entrance into the stadium (while supplies last), and for the kids, they will receive little yellow balls for their enjoyment. Lastly those players who were honored at the “Gala dei Diamanti” for their performance on the field last year will be recognized in front of their home crowd.

The series will conclude on Saturday the 25th in San Marino at 20:30. The two scheduled starters for that game are Da Silva (San Marino) and D’Angelo (Bologna).
