Four-way tie in Italian Softball League after Week 3

ROME--The Italian Softball League is crowded at the top, asfour teams all have claim to the league lead after 3 weekends of doubleheaders.

Bollate took the bite out of the Titano Hornets with a clean sweep over theweekend in San Marino.

The Titano Hornets were undefeated going into Week 3 action andatop the ISL. The pair of losses for the Hornets sends the team spiraling downfrom 1st place to 5th place, but still only a half gameoff the pace.

Bollate and Titano put together 32 runs on 35 hits in theirfirst meeting.  Titano had been leading11-9 going into the final two innings before Bollate put on an offensivedisplay that accounted for 10 hit and 10 runs. Bollate closed out the game 19-13. Bollate's Kate Robinson led theattack, going 5 for 5 at the plate with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored.  Saskia Kosterink (BA.474) also continued herhot pace, going 3 for 4 while scoring 4 runs for Bollate.

In the rematch, Bollate beat Titano 4-1. Robinson againplayed a key role, tossing a complete game and punching out 10 Hornet battersen route to collecting her third victory in as many weeks.

In other action around the ISL, all other doubleheaders weresplit evenly. 

The 2010 ISL champ Caserta needed 10 innings for a 4-3victory over La Loggia.  Caserta fell 9-1in the nightcap. La Loggia's Christina Rolla (BA .556) went 3 for 5 on the dayto maintain her ISL batting average lead. Rolla also leads the league indoubles with 4 and is tied for the lead in homeruns with 2 long balls.

Forli took the first contest with Legnano in Legnano6-2.  Legnano returned the favor with a 4-1victory under the lights, Yu Hui Li baffled Forli batters, as she picked up hersecond victory from the mound.

Nuoro left Sardinia to play back-to-back games againstMacerata.  Rebecca Iaccino (BA. 538)powered the league leading Macerata offense in game 1, going 3 for 4 with apair of runs.  Nuoro struck back with a3-2 win of its own as Nuoro's Lindsey Meadows pitched past Macerata's KristenWadwell.  Meadows collected 13 strikeoutsin the affair to give her a league leading 37 strikeouts on the season.

Newcomer Caronno was able to register their first victory inthe Italian Softball League against Fermana. Caronno took the opening game 6-4 before falling 11-1 in the tail end ofthe double-dip.
