ROME--The softballers out of the Republic of San Marino, the Titano Hornets, have flown out of their beehive to sting its first two victims of the young season, thus moving out in front of the Italian Softball League with a perfect record of 4-0. However, one of those contests is being protested, as Nuoro made an appeal on what they perceive as a line-up violation by the Hornets.
Titano topped Nuoro two times, winning each game by one run. The Hornets required eight innings to put away Nuoro 3-2 in afternoon contest. In the nightcap, Hornets pitcher Megan Brown tossed a complete game shutout to earn her second victory on the season.
Legnano picked up two victories at home against ISL newcomer Caronno. Legnano barely got by 4-3 in the initial game, then skated to an easy 10-0 blanking that required only four innings in the rematch. Caronno (0-4) has yet to register a win in the Italian softball's big leagues.
Macerata and Caserta split a pair of games down in Caserta. Castera coasted to a lopsided 8-0 win in game 1. Macerata retaliated in game 2 with a 8-5 downing of Caserta. Both teams are tied for second place with 3-1 records.
La Loggia and Fermana traded punches, splitting a twin biller. Fermana needed nine innings to break up the tie and win 4-3. La Loggia used a four-run fourth inning to break a 0-0 tie. La Loggia was powered by Brenda DeBlaes (2 for 4, HR, 3 RBI) and Kelly Hardie 2 for 3, HR, 2 RBI).
Forli and Bollate also broke out even after two games in Forli. Bollate scored 2 insurance runs in the top of the 7th to pull away from Forli and win the afternoon contest 5-2. Forli pitcher Kylie Reynolds picked up her first victory on the season, racking up 14 strikeouts on her way to throwing a one-hit complete game shutout. Sara Avanzi had two rbi in the 4-0 win for Forli.
