After winning easily the fourth Italian Baseball Week, Team Italy looks ready to compete in the European Championship. The azzurri have proved to be consistent at bat, with a balanced line up that mixes some power with solid base running and the capability to get on base.
Italy may fear the debut game against Spain, the team that eliminated them in 2007. Still, the way the Italians dominated the team managed by Italian skipper Mazzotti during the Italian Baseball Week seems to indicate that that game won't be the real challenge.
Italy has the skills to win all the games of the round robin (Greece, Great Britain, Sweden and Croatia are the other contenders in Group B) and face the second round robin, played by the top teams of the 2 Groups (The Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Belgium, France and Ukraine will perform in Group A) . The top 3 of Group A will play the top 3 of Group B and the final standings will reflect the match ups of the first round robin. The top 2 teams will play the championship game on August 1st.
